From Bill McKibben: "I warn you, it’s not all easy reading. In fact, given the horrific fires still burning in California, an almost literal pall hangs over the words. But I want you to know I write it from a place of engagement, not despair--I won’t give up, and I know you won’t either. Movement building demands honesty, and hence my essay, but it also demands the courage to face facts and fight on. " Please pass this essay along to others

Major Trump administration Climate Report Says "damage is intensifying across the country"   11-23-18  Washington Post

"Scientists are more certain than ever that climate change is already affecting the United States — and that it is going to be very expensive."

Major Climate Report warns of Damaged Environment and Shrinking Economy  NYT  11-23-18

The report, which was mandated by Congress and made public by the White House, is notable not only for the precision of its calculations and bluntness of its conclusions, but also because its findings are directly at odds with President Trump’s agenda of environmental deregulation, which he asserts will spur economic growth.

New Climate Change Report ABC News  11-23-18  Scientists said significant, immediate action was required to "avoid sustainable damage" to the U.S. economy, environment and human health.

The Three Most Chilling Conclusions From the Climate Report    The Atlantic  11-25-18

The National Climate Assessment was released last Friday, (Black Friday 11-23-18). The three most chilling conclusions are all supported by graphs and data that explain the increasing threats. We see that even though the report is required by law very 4 years, the current administration downplays the urgency and does not provide financial support or public policy to help combat the realities described by the report.  This explains the content of the CNN article posted below.

Here are the 13 Federal Agencies involved with the National Climate Assessment  VOA (Voice of America) news Provided links to all thirteen of the federal government agencies that participated in the 4th climate assessment. The National Climate assessment report is required  by congress every 4 years. The U.S. Global Change Research Program, made up of 13 federal departments and agencies, produced the Fourth National Climate Assessment, which was put together with the help of more than 300 experts, guided by a 60-member Federal Advisory Committee. The material was extensively reviewed by the public and experts, as well as a panel of the National Academy of Sciences, according to the report.

Trumps Failure to fight climate change is a Crime Against Humanity   11-23-18 CNN   "President Donald Trump, Florida governor Rick Scott, Florida senator Marco Rubio and others who oppose action to address human induced climate change should be help accountable for climate crimes against humanity".

Why Do Many Reasonable People Doubt Science?

The Energy 202: California and the Trump administration rarely agree on energy policy. Here's and exception  The article appeared in the Energy 202 section of the Washington Post on October 22nd 2018. It is huge that Zinke would agree with California on offshore wind development when at the same time the Trumps administration still is pushing for offshore oil development. What does this mean for those who are trying to stall offshore wind (like Ocean City Maryland) along the east coast?

Lies, Lies, & More Lies: Lawrence Solomon is Scared & So Is the Fossil Fuel Industry  This article by Joshua S. Hill was in "Clean Technica" News on October 21st 2018. It underscores the growing number of renewable energy developments and how many investors are in the process of divesting from fossil fuel. No wonder they are running scared! The Delaware-Maryland ELCA Creation Care Ministry Team supports the "Just Transition" away from fossil fuels development toward renewable energy as soon as possible.

Extreme Category 5 Typhoon, the worst U.S. storm since 1935, leaves northern Mariana Islands devastated 10-24-2018 This scary strong storm had sustained winds of 180 MPH with gusts of over 200! This resulted in never before seen devastation of property anywhere in the US.

Climate Change Lessons Town by Town  An article in the Baltimore Sun in May, 2018 describes the idea of a "Climate Academy" for the small towns that surround the Chesapeake Bay and their leaders. Likely the best candidate for the academy would be the Representative from Maryland's 1st congressional district, Andy Harris. Even though he is a medical doctor and supposedly a man of science, he seems to promote the denial of the science behind climate change. This is poor leadership when the denial of the reality of the global climate crisis poses a threat to the livelihood, health and and welfare of the millions of people who live in and around the Chesapeake bay watershed.

Climate Change is already depressing the price of flood prone real estate This article from Fortune Magazine April 21, 2018 shows information from Zillow, the online real estate company shows that coastal properties exposed to rising sea levels are already now selling at a 7% discount.

The Details of the Paris Climate Agreement The world should aim for an emissions peak "as soon as possible" and limit total warming to less than 2°C, or perhaps even to 1.5°C. (The Earth has already warmed about 1°C since pre-industrial times.) It's a signal that countries at least hope to do more than they're already doing.
